Neighbourhood List

Privacy

Neighbourhood List has no accounts and nothing to sign up for, and we don’t sell anything about you. Updated October 16, 2026.

The address tool

The site’s one form is the address box of the assessment tool (Edmonton, Calgary), also on the appeal pages. The lookup runs on our server, so the address you type goes in the page’s address (neighbourhoodlist.ca/edmonton/assessment?address=…). That page address stays in your browser’s history, is in any link you copy from the page, and reaches our host’s request logs.

Neither Google Analytics nor Google’s ad servers receive the address you type. The site takes it out of the page address and the previous page’s address it reports to Google Analytics, and Analytics is set to remove it as well. Pages you open after a lookup see only neighbourhoodlist.ca as the page you came from. The tool’s pages carry no ads and load nothing from Google’s ad servers, because an ad request carries the page’s address. Analytics counts each lookup by city and by whether the address was found, never the address, the unit or the value.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits, see which pages are read, and count lookups. It sets cookies and receives your IP address, your browser, and the address and title of each page you view (without a typed address, as above), which Google processes under its own privacy policy. You can block it with Google’s opt-out browser add-on or your browser’s privacy settings. The site works without it.

Advertising

The site may show ads from Google AdSense, labelled “Advertisement”, at the end of a page, after the figures and the source line, and none on the assessment tool. Google picks the ads, not us. Advertisers have no say in any figure, and an ad for a realtor, an appraiser or an appeal service is Google’s choice, not our recommendation. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies let it and its partners serve ads based on those visits. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and out of other vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info. How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Hosting and email

The site is hosted on Vercel, whose servers log requests (including IP addresses and page addresses, a lookup’s among them) for security and operation. If you write to hello@neighbourhoodlist.ca about a figure or a name, we keep your message to answer it and add you to no list.

The records

The figures are the City of Edmonton’s and the City of Calgary’s open data. The assessment data holds no owner names. The tool shows the address you typed and, for the properties it is compared with, only their median value and where yours sits among them, not their addresses. Building permits are shown without addresses. Business names are shown only for commercial or storefront licences and only where the name reads as a business; licences often held by one person, such as home-based ones, are never named (methodology).
